Board

The KVAB is represented by its president and permanent secretary, who are both elected among the members. Most of the KVAB's activities are coordinated by (one of) four Classes, each being run by a director.

The president, vice-president, permanent secretary and directors of the four Classes together form the Bureau of the Academy, which takes operational policy decisions. The Board of Directors is the KVAB’s strategic policy body, composed of members of the Bureau, supplemented by three additional representatives per Class.

The president presides over the General Assemblies and Meetings of the Bureau and the Board of Directors. If the president is unable to attend the meetings, they are chaired by the vice-president. The permanent secretary heads the Academy’s administration and manages its staff.

The Articles of Association, published in the Official Gazette, constitute the legal framework for the activities of the Academy. Its internal operations are governed by the house rules, which are available to members.

The Academy is represented by the president and the permanent secretary. The General Assembly elects the president and vice-president by secret ballot. Their election is valid for a period of two years starting on 1 January.
In urgent matters, the president may take decisions in conjunction with the permanent secretary. The president presides over the general meetings of the Academy and the meetings of the Bureau and the Board of Directors. If the president is unable to attend the meetings, they are chaired by the vice-president.

Permanent Secretary

The current permanent secretary of the Academy is  Karel Velle.The permanent secretary takes initiatives and makes the necessary proposals to achieve the Academy’s objectives. The permanent secretary heads the Academy’s administration and manages its staff.
The sermanent secretary is allowed to attend all Class and committee meetings. He/she has the right to vote in his/her own Class.
The Academy is represented by the chairperson and the permanent secretary.
The permanent secretary is a member of the Bureau and the Academy’s Board of Directors. During the Public General Assembly in December, the permanent secretary reports on the activities of the past year.
The permanent secretary, who is elected by secret ballot among the ordinary members, has a full-time mandate, which lasts four years and is renewable.
